Semi Finals

France 2 Brazil 0
England 5 Peru 1

Final

England 1 France 0 (Tait 36 mins)

Here's a report of the final:

France 53% popssession. Shots/on target: 17/8
England 47% possession. Shots/on target 13/7

France suffered an early blow in the opening twenty minutes with injuries to key winger Modeste, who had the highest player rating in the tournament, and ace striker Charlot, the tournament's top scorer (having scored in every round through to the final). Modeste was taken off, but France manager John Linklater gambled by keeping Charlot on the pitch at 67% fitness.

Midway through the first half England took the lead through Tait, who had been their leading marksman throughout the tournament.

But France continued to dominate possession into the second half. France knew it was not going to be their day when a Gauthier finish in 76 mins was disallowed for offside. (Doubtless the linesman was Russian). This was one of a series of decisions which favoured England to allow them to hold on to their slender lead through to the finish.

The final was watched by a meagre crowd of hard core diehards. England manager Rob Starsmore was not present. Peru manager Kieran Whitmore gave some sporting sympathy to France: "I can't believe you haven't scored, John, you've been all over them." Mod Mark Goode commented: "How good is that? England beat a Scottish manager to win the World Cup". Austria manager Chris Keeley commented: "I don't want either of these cunt nations to win. Boring. Boring."

At the final whistle France manager John Linklater said: "The players have given me everything I could have asked for. The Modeste injury was a big blow. We kept Mohammed Charlot on for the full 90 minutes because even half fit, he's always going to get a chance at some stage, but it was a gamble that didn't come off for us. I'm delighted with our performance through the tournament, but naturally the result in the final is a big disappointment. On another day, it might have been so different if the breaks had gone our way."

France legend Zinadene Zidane commented: "The Scotsman got it all wrong in the final. Charlot was down to 55% by the end of the game. I predicted that when it came to making crunch decisions, this Scottish nobody would fail France. We should learn from this mistake in appointing a foreigner as national coach. He should go back to his mediochre club En Avant de Garvald and play at his own level."

England legend Sir Bobby Charlton commented: "There were tears in my eyes. It was like 1966 all over again."

England legend Sir Geoff Hurst said: "Good result, but no World Cup  hat-tricks for Tait, so I'm over the moon that England are champs, but my historical record remains unbeaten."

England legend Lord Styles of Norbert said: "Zippy-de-dooh-dah, Zippy-de-yeh."

The Mod and Org Team wishes all of u the best in life!!! It was fun! 19th prob last day

Nation: PORTUGAL

Manager: White Devil

Club: White Devils

Manager's Honours Won: 1 Qualifying League (season 1), 2 Platinum Cup Season 7 and 14) and 1 FA Cup (season 13).

Why did you chose this nation? I'm Portuguese.

Key Defender (paste in player and tell us why): <Pedro Gonçalves:player#1501044092> because he's strong, smart and skillfull.

Key Midfielder (paste and tell): <Fernando Varela:player#1501153978> this one is the team brain, motor and heart.

Key Forward (paste and tell): <Nuno Santos:player#1501032084> my complete forward, quick, inteligent and deadly.

How do you rate your chances of lifting the Gameworld Cup? I'm a outsider but dont disrespect my chances, i can make a good surprise

Which nation do you think will win? England and Spain had played a strong and determined football last few days, but anyone can win, this is the FINAL WORLD CUP comp and our goodbye to FML.

What has been your biggest frustration (getting players released, getting players to play/blend, filling key positions): I dont have frustrations in FML or even in real life, i live with what i can get and make things stronger from there, so i'm really happy with my boys.

Any other comments: I hope SI bring us soon a new kind of FML and we can join a new gameworld with Turk renegates because this is/was a good GW with awesome mods (there were a few not that awesome but generally they were, nothing is perfect), a big THANKS to Peter, he made this last comp possible and his effort was unpayable.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS

Nation:  England

Manager:  Rob Starsmore

Club:  FC Vampire

Manager's Honours Won:  3 major comps including last season's Premier League

Why did you chose this nation?  - I'm English and I was quick enough to grab whilst still available.

Key Defender:  <Steve Howson:player#1501097893>.  I was tempted to say R.Henry who was already at my club but Howson is a magnificent 5 star defender.  Incidentally I was narrowly beaten in a wage auction for him a couple of seasons back so its great to try him albeit briefly.

Key Midfielder: <Ryan Rhodes:player#1501032544>.  Another tough one but I've gone for Rhodes who can do it all.   Physically very good plus 20 each for creativity and passing, what more do you want from a playmaker?

Key Forward:  <Marc Tait:player#1501126524> I think.  I say I think as hes the last person into the squad earlier today.  Looks young, bright and lively.

How do you rate your chances of lifting the Gameworld Cup?  Not favourites but 'could' make a run at it.

Which nation do you think will win?  I'm not sure but if I have to pick someone I'll say Argentina.  Italy have a strong squad but with Darmesh and his track record in this GW its Argentina's to lose.

What has been your biggest frustration:  None.  It's all good at England's base camp.

Any other comments:  Huge thanks to Pete who I think has been the driving force behind the world cup.  He's shown gr8 motivation.

Good luck to all taking part.

On a night when dreams were both born and broken, 16 nations battled their way through to the knockout stages of the Gameworld Finals, but there were a few early exits for seeded teams in the four qualifying groups.

Holland, France and Spain all upset the form book to win their groups and only Brazil in group D confirmed their pedigree to see off the challenge, but this turned out to be the group of death with Ukraine proving to be victims when they were eliminated despite losing only one game. They had six points, only two behind winners Brazil, but Ireland, dark horses Peru and Portugal all squeezed them out by each taking seven points, while bottom team Switzerland also managed five points in the tightest of the four sections.

Holland racked up an impressive 13 points from five games to run away with section A and Mexico proved to be the surprise packet in this group, claiming 10 points, while Russia put in a strong run to finish third with seven points. This left only one qualifying spot for mighty Italy, Germany and the Czech Republic. Italy squeezed home on goal difference, leaving a shaken manager Michael Condron reviewing his underperforming troops before axeing six players from the squad and calling up new faces in an effort to get the Azures challenge back on track.

France continued good recent form by beating Argentina 1-0, and scoring another 16 goals in their remaining ties to finish top in group B with 13 points. Only plucky Belgium held the rampant French to a draw, while Argentina redeemed themselves with four straight wins to go second and USA took third, eliminating seeds Croatia, while Sierre Leone never recovered from their opening tie 7-2 thrashing at the hands of France.

In group C, Spain were in total control with five wins out of five, England won their remaining games to take second, while Austria and Senegal qualified at the expense of Malawi and Ghana.

The 16 qualifiers go forward to the knockout phase which kicks off tonight at 8 pm.

The draw will be announced closer to kick off.

Nation: France

Manager: John Linklater

Club: En Avant de Guingamp

Manager's Honours Won: Zippo (winning a playoff into TRFA Div 1 and lost two finals)

Why did you chose this nation? I'm a francophile. I love France, French food and wine, French literature, French culture and French football since I had a season ticket at En Avant do Guingamp when they had Drogba and Malouda in the side. My coaching hero is Wenger. My all-time footballing hero was Zidane. The French make a difficult team to get the best from. Enormously talented, but moody and unpredictable. But that's why I like France.

Key Defender (paste in player and tell us why): <Eric Kissamba:player#1501137896> The man has got everything you would want in a central defender -- commanding, alert, decisive and a corner banger. He has come from a top club Tommetje where his form over the last three seasons speaks for itself.

Key Midfielder (paste and tell) <Ismaël Modeste:player#1501194471> When this boy turns it on the team begins to click. A natural inside forward with two good feet and an ability to turn defences on their heels to create chances or get a shot away.

Key Forward (paste and tell) <Mohamed Charlot:player#1501009808> What can you say? Probably the most feared striker in the Gameworld finals. Has been the scourge of top Premier clubs with an average four goals in five for the last seven seasons. If Charlot is on the pitch, France are just about to score.

How do you rate your chances of lifting the Gameworld Cup? Early form in quickplays suggests France are capable of beating any side. Consistency will be the real test. Big Jock's managerial inexperience will be the real vulnerability, and there's always a question mark over French temperament if things go wrong. If they get off to a good start they could finish among the last four.

Which nation do you think will win? Darmesh is a master tactician and his Argentinians will be there or there abouts, Rob's England have strength in all departments and Italy have amazing players to chose from. I think there could be a dark horse winner. Watch out for Holland.

What has been your biggest frustration (getting players released, getting players to play/blend, filling key positions): No big problems. Managers have been great about releasing key players. France will be going for a 4-2-3-1 setup because that's the system that suits the players we have.

Any other comments: I'm just hoping for a great tournament. The excitement of getting this squad together has been the high point of my career. I'm just grateful for the chance to be in there competing against the Gameworld's finest.

Return this to FA Organisers and we'll post all the responses together.

John Linklater
